Prepare your shopping list
Two weeks might seem plenty of time, but don’t forget that some things, like uniforms, need to be ordered in advance.

We’ve created the ultimate back-to-school shopping list for parents with children in nursery, primary and secondary schools. These are ready for you to save on your phone or print out and bring to the shops! Don’t forget that you get fee-free spending across the UK with your Caxton Card, for all your school uniforms, backpacks and PE kits.

This year more than ever, it’s a good idea to check what your children have from previous years (unless they’re starting school for the first time – congratulations!). While some of their stationery might be good for another year, other things like their uniform and PE kit will likely need to be replaced.

Get back to a bedtime routine
Two weeks out is also a great time to get back to a proper bedtime routine. While it may be difficult to get younger children to understand why they suddenly need to start going to bed earlier, it will make their first day in school a lot easier – and with all the excitement of starting a new school year, they hardly need additional trouble sleeping! Set your family up for success and give yourselves a little leeway.

Get the kids reading and writing
Some children will be keen to start using their new stationery, and instead of telling them that they have to wait until school starts, why not make it a game! Rather than keeping their stationery for the first day of school, print out worksheets that gets the kids used to learning again. They’ll enjoy it and the first day back will seem easier than ever!

Create an out-the-door checklist
On the day, everyone will be excited, and remembering everything the kids need to bring can be difficult. Sit down the night before and create an out-the-door checklist to keep by the door and tick off as things are done. Putting everything in one place can also help make sure that their first day back is the best it can be.
